Posted in Helen Clark
OK, you asked me what I think, so here’s a full review:
1. The cigarette packet shot made me laugh
2. The whole thing was put together very well.
3. Was that Sue Bradford halfway through? Why?
4. The theme needs a bit of work.
Let me explain more about the theme, because I think
I didn’t like the theme from the perspective it didn’t seem to attack Helen Clark for anything more than her ability to scowl, with the odd kiss shot thrown in. The result will be our worthy political opponents will write this off as a mindless attack based on superficial reasons. And frankly, I think we need to have a default view of showing more respect for the office of Prime Minister, unless there is a serious reason to illustrate our heartfelt difference of opinion.
I think political satire is best when it links back to an idea or concept about her views or actions, and we saw a hint of that with the opening shot of the bananas. How to accentuate that and use the shots to illustrate the idea that Helen’s actions and policies are turning NZ into a banana republic? Then it would all fall into place I think.
The posed shot of her and Davis in a “lovers embrace” could be linked to the “posed” positions Helen took on the anti-smacking laws only to reverse her position?
The scowl at George Bush is Labour’s plans to undermine our relationship with our number one trading partner by cosying up to China, whose human rights abuses make 380 people in Gitmo held as war combatants look like a Betty Ford Clinic rehab holiday.
Taito can kiss his job goodbye…
Tamihere and Turia former victims of the kiss of life from Helen?
Maybe a flash about the prostitution law reform with a special kiss from Helen?
Not sure exactly the right images to link with the issues of the day, but my point is to make them more relevant than a simple bash at Helen. The Stare of Death / Kiss of Death could be made more political?
Anyway, good first effort. Look forward to the evolution (or just go and create another, evolution be damned ![]()
