Top 10 ways I save the environment
September 7, 2007 by scrubone
I’ve been thinking about my lifestyle, and there’s actually many ways I help the environment.
- I drive a car, rather than ride a horse. Horses have much higher greenhouse gas emissions than my car.
- I also stay off the bus. My car has an engine a fraction of the size of a bus, and carries just as many people as the bus usually does. Plus, it has a much cleaner exhaust.
- I use traditional light bulbs, meaning that I don’t put any mercury in landfill from the new types.
- I leave my computer on at work overnight. This increases demand for baseline electricity, which in this country is met by hydroelectric - meaning that the demand for clean power increases. The peak hour electricity it would use being turned on in the morning would come from fossil fuel usage.
- I put all my rubbish into landfill. This reduces the need for what is currently expensive and environmentally costly recycling. When it technology advances enough to make recycling economically viable, someone will be able to open the landfill and reuse the resources I have carefully buried there.
- I throw out my green waste. This means the landfill has more green matter to promote composting within the landfill.
- I fly in aeroplanes long distance. This reduces a lot of environmental costs, including those evil roads the greens are always against.
- Whenever I see a greenie telling people to save the environment, I give him a pat on the back. Only a bit higher and a bit harder. Actually, that’s just for fun.
- I always print out items at work. This increases requirements for paper, which means people must plant new trees rather than being able to meet the demand for paper from existing ones.
- I promote urban sprawl. This means farmers are able to sell their farms on the edge of the city and have enough money to develop land that is overrun with noxious pests and make it productive.
As you can see, I’m quite the environmentalist. I’d welcome any further suggestions as to how I can help improve the world we live in - I’m sure there are many more out there.

I keep an eye on the habits of leading AGW luminaries, and try to mimic their examples.
For example, Al Gore seems to use as much electricity in his house in one month, than the average American does in a year. My target is to use *less* than Al Gore, and I seem to be managing this quite well.
Al Gore prefers to use a private jet to travel around the place, leaving a space on commercial flights for other people needing to travel. I often fill that space up so his gesture was not wasted.
Re point 3: You’re an idiot.
I’m going to be generous and assume you already know why the other points are bullshit too.
wow. are you seriously this stupid?
Xarn: Sigh.
1. Your mercury claims do not apply in New Zealand - as I mentioned above, our baseline power comes from hydroelectric, not coal.
2. Of course it’ not serious, that why it’s in the “humour” category. The point is, that there are pluses and minuses to every point.
3. I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned that I am slowly converting to energy saver light bulbs where they fit the usage. In fact, I don’t do most of the above, and the few that I do do, I do to save time and/or money.
hay my name is halima ithink with wrting in pollution .think you very much by
