Homosexuality is fast becoming the sacred cow of modern society. Stop the ACLU highlights a case where a student who made homophobic comments in an anonymous feedback survey, but found that anonymity didn’t extend to his case.
There is an appalling case at the University of Georgia (also excerpted on today’s “Education Watch”) where a student was punished for something he wrote on a supposedly “confidential” survey. The university’s guarantee of confidentiality to him was rendered a fraud.
How come? Because he wrote a scathing evaluation of a professor who himself admitted that he was “difficult”. You still don’t get it? The professor was a homosexual. Protecting homosexuals from criticism trumped all the integrity of the university’s promises, apparently.
Actually, I disagree here. I disagree because I went to the original post and read what the guy wrote. It’s disgusting.
Beck’s violations stem from comments made on two course evaluations in Joseph Disponzio’s History of the Built Environment course sequence. On the first course evaluation, Beck was asked “What aspects of the course could use improvement or change?” Beck wrote: “Joe Disponzio is a complete asshole. I hope he chokes on a dick, gets AIDS and dies. To hell with all gay teachers who are terrible with their jobs and try to fail students!”
That is outright abuse of the anonymity of the survey. And he did it not once, but twice.
What exactly did he expect? There’s a difference between legitimate criticism and abuse for it’s own sake - this is a clear cut case of the latter, and I refuse to condone it. It’s the sort of thing that encourages abuse of the right, and undermines what is usually the more responsible, civilised and accountable side of the political spectrum.
