Polygamy denied

This is too rich!

Welfare Minister Ruth Dyson’s office says she never made a speech which has been reported in the first edition of a new on-line newspaper.

Ian Wishart’s publication, TGIF Weekly, said the speech was delivered to Victoria University students on May 6 and in it Ms Dyson suggested Labour was developing policy that would recognise polygamy and polyamory — arrangements where people have multiple wives or husbands.

The report, published on Friday, said the speech was evidence of a hidden agenda of social engineering.

A spokesman for Ms Dyson told NZPA the speech was posted on a government website in error.

He said the speech was written for Ms Dyson but she rejected it.

Someone wrote the speech. That in itself says many things.

Some questions:

  1. Who wrote the speech?
  2. What level do they hold in the ministers office?
  3. Are they still working for the minister?
  4. If so why, considering they failed to follow the ministers orders?
  5. How many other people in the government support polygamous relationships?
  6. What other work have they been engaged in, and do we need to check this too?
  7. If Ms Dyson really doesn’t support this why didn’t she order the speech destroyed immediately?
  8. Or, is she fully in charge of her own office?

Responses

  1. I haven’t bothered to look, but does anyone know if Ruth Dyson did make a speech to Victoria University students on May 6 and what it actually said, and if that is corroborated by the students who attended?

  2. I don’t know if they would have noticed, and probably won’t have remembered.

These web sites are supposed to be a record of what was actually said aren’t they?

  3. It would, in my viewpoint, be another forward step in this country for polygamy/polyamory to be legalised. Labour have brought in civil unions and decriminalised prostitution and those were both good things to do because adults should be allowed to express themselves sexually in these ways, and now they are. Policy implemented to legalise polygamy would be just another step towards letting people have another freedom that they should probably already have.

Before civil unions and the Prostitution Law Reform were brought in, there seemed to be a lot more hate in our society towards homosexuals, towards other minorities. These days, however, I see a lot more tolerance, caring, and understanding between people from all differents paths in life. A lot of barriers have broken down now and, although people are still very much in their settled little cliques, it’s not really uncommon for, say, a farmer to have one or two gay mates anymore.

So bring on the legalisation (or decriminalisation) of polygamy and polyamory. Why not?

  4. Another question: what’s wrong by polygamy? Why should it be illegal?

    • The reason polygamy should never be legal is because it is a criminal lifestyle,
children and women are abused sexually, physically, mentally, and emotionally.
It is a complete mind control over the women and children who are born into this lifestyle! And we certainly do not need to support the perpetrators!

  5. What’s wrong with Polygamy???

Where do we start. Firstly, I have enough of a hard time making sure I am a good husband to my wife. Imagine how hard it would be if I had four to please!!!

I believe Polygamy is basically about control and power and that is why I think it is wrong. Interestingly I have just finished a book called ‘escape’ which tells the story of a woman caught in a polygamist cult and her escape. Read that you I am sure you wont be much of a fan!!

  6. pra mim essa gravura ai ou essa foto ai é uma vergonha o cara é pra escolher uma só e mais ninguem porque a outra que sobra não recebe da justica parece ai a lei é bem rigida em relação a isso eu acho

  7. Yes, Why should it be illegal while being gay is not illegal then why being polygamous is illegal.
