All data was downloaded this evening.
Some changes this month.
1. The default NZ rank for those without one is now 45000 as this was too high and penalising those who had fewer NZ readers.
2. The default Alexa rank of 10000000 was actually higher the Alexa score for many blogs and is now 30000000.
3. Blogs are now coloured according to their political position.
So far we have simply left, right, libertarian and some greens, but I will be including anarchist(grey – black if I can), ACT(yellow) and Maori and United Future if there’s any demand.
Some are not coloured because the position was unknown or uncertain (Big News), some are because both sides of the spectrum are covered (Policy Blog).
4. I am starting to label blogs’ non-political areas of interest.
I’ve started with Christian blogs, but will look to label Economic blogs, Media blogs, Environmental, Feminist blogs etc the same way. If people know of a distinct blog area and the blogs in that area, let me know in comments.
Lest things get too complicated, this will be limited to 3. (So you christian environmental feminist media commentators will have to prioritise 
)
5. The previous two points fall out of my move to a more automated way of formatting the stats, meaning that I now save myself a headache and a good hour of work.

liberation blog definitely shouldn’t be coloured blue and thus classified as rightwing!
Although liberation is intended to be unorthodox in its leftism, and also very (left) libertarian-oriented, please don’t let this confuse you in thinking it’s in any way or form rightwing in nature.
Otherwise, I’m impressed with this exercise. Although many blogs will never fit perfectly into ideological boxes, it’s a very useful attempt to quantify and describe the NZ blogosphere.

What was that – close to an 80 drop in the points in Alexa in a month for TS2.02. This is while the real traffic levels were actually on their way down post-election.
Amazing what one person adding Alexa can do to their own ratings. Amazing that we are now in front of the bloated one on this scale – I wonder why?
As I commented in December, I was testing the Alexa ranking to see how easy it was to manipulate. I’ve been a bit suspicious of some of the rankings in the past – especially Whale’s.
I really don’t think that Alexa is a good system to do rankings on. It is far too susceptible to ‘tweaking’.
I love the new layout. Calculating the Christian blog stats is so much quicker now I can just scroll and stop at the crosses.

MandM should probably have a dark blue band as we are Classical Liberal/libertarian – definately more to the right than most of the other light blue blogs.

We’re not doing “shades” – the Libertarian party has a specific colour so we’ve used that, but other than that, the colours are light to keep things readable.
Looks interesting. How come FrogBlog fares so poorly? At a glance, they are way more read than us, and should be higher than NZC.
Our traffic has dropped off as our posts have, I expect we’ll be up towards the 15-20 slot next month as the longer term averages fall.

Argh, frogblog is a right royal pain for this ranking system, because their stats come back for the greens website, not the blog.
So as per Tumeke, I multiply the score by 80. Unfortunately, the score above is pre that multiply.
Thus, their ranking is essentially meaningless.
You could mark blogs that are no longer being updated – 100 Word Blog for example.
My blog, Anarchia, is anarchist. As is stanselen. Would be great if you could change both for next time if you are going to have an anarchist colour – otherwise, I’m totally happy to stay as left.

Currently I would be Alexa = 8610883. AlexaNZ default at 45000. Technorati currently uncategorised ie. 1 (though Alexa authority is 9). Giving a result of ~38 million.
