“Untouchable Girls”

Oh please.

The story of New Zealand’s social upheaval of the 80s can be followed through the story of yodelling lesbian twins from Huntly.

Speaking to Close Up’s Mark Sainsbury, Jools and Lynda Topp said the documentary film Untouchable Girls, out this week, is as much a social history of New Zealand as it is about the Kiwi-as music and comedy duo.

Excuse me while I quietly puke.

Go to India, then you can tell me about being Untouchable. (Better yet, you can purchase a book written by a fellow blogger on the subject.)

Being a pair of media darlings doesn’t even come close.

  1. They were popular when I saw them, back in the early (very early) eighties. As far as I can tell, they remained popular. Their performance was enjoyable and good. Not great, but good. I’m sure they had their hard core fans.

Was that all a sham? Unfortunately, I’m not so curious as to find out why they consider themselves untouchable in spite of their success, unless their success wasn’t successful enough, and they blame being lesbians for that?

    I’ll wait for the review.
