“No” and now the spin

Well, the vote is a resounding no.

In response to the national referendum question ‘Should a smack as part of good parental correction be a criminal offence in New Zealand?’, 87.6 per cent of respondents voted ‘No’.

The ‘YES’ vote accounted for 11.81 per cent of the vote.

Informal votes (spoiled ballots etc) accounted for 0.6 percent of the vote.

But apparently the results don’t take into account people who have cellphones, so the numbers may change. Not.

No wonder the “Yes Vote” were so bitchy about the victory party – they simply had no hope of having one themselves.

It was clear that they had far greater resources and bigger names backing them, yet they only achieved in drawing support from 6% of voters.

The fate of New Zealand families would now appear to rest with the ACT party – can they persuade the government to support repealing the law? Key’s excuse that no one is affected isn’t good enough – there have been no reports of wife starving in Afghanistan either, yet we oppose that law just the same.
