World Leaders Visiting Iraq

Prince Philip has visited Iraq to cheer up the troops, according to Xtra.

This sort of thing is fantastic. I doubt we will see the Queen going to Iraq (they don’t even let her ride in helicopters) but the range of leaders from Britian and the USA who have visited Iraq is a amazing.

We must remember, these guys are walking into a seriously dangerous situation. The terrorists don’t limit themselves to who or where they attack, they don’t follow any rules. Any visit by VIPs have only secrecy to keep them safe.

Bush in particular has my undying admiration for his visit(s). This is a guy who in his own country is guarded to incredible degrees. For him to walk into an active war-zone testifies to his commitment and leadership.

I mean, to get from the airport, you have to ride on one of the most dangerous roads in the world. This is vulnerability – if  word had gotten out, you can bet every singe dollar you have that every singe terrorist in Bagdad would rush to that road and take out whatever they could see.

I like this quote from his second visit:

“I’ve come to not only look you in the eye, I’ve also come to tell you that when America gives its word, it keeps its word,” Bush told al-Maliki as cameras flashed.

That’s leadership.
