Athiest Scum

After the tragedy this week, I wondered how long it would take for someone to use this as an opportunity to attack christians.

Seems Peter Cresswell is only too willing to take a crack. And here’s me thinking (well, hoping) that no one would sink that low.

Zentiger responds.

I don’t know why, given the history of the world Peter thinks that a Christian believes they live lives protected from all harm. It’s a childish belief that Peter uses to build his own case for no God, and it is as a child he demands we believe him. Why? Because God does not always protect us from suffering!

A person’s faith is not a shield to protect them from harm, it is a belief we are loved by God no matter the pain and suffering we experience. In understanding this, it can help to try our best to offer such love and charity to others. The Christian message doesn’t have to get much more complicated than this.

  1. It seems not just Peter Cresswell that has descended into the insensitive in order to get their views across, views that make erroneous assumptions about the nature of Christian faith. Another Peter on TBR:

It is still relevant to ask – what is the point in pouring your savings, and your leisure time, into a god if this is all you get.

    Sigh.

  2. You have no right to call anyone scum because they do not agree in a fictional character you seem to believe in. I think time and place is something that should be taken into account, but certainly when somebody is having god god god god channelled through their ears 24/7 for a week they have a right to challenge it!

  3. Please point out where I call anyone scum because “they do not agree in a fictional character”. I did no such thing.

I call Peter scum because he uses a tragedy to insult people who he disagrees with, even people who have just died.

  4. I think time and place is something that should be taken into account

how much do you think it should be taken into account? Not actually much at all it seems.

because they do not agree in a fictional character

How do you know God is fictional? Because it is improbable? Do you realise how improbable intelligent life is?

but certainly when somebody is having god god god god channelled through their ears 24/7 for a week they have a right to challenge it!

This might be just a tiny wee exageration. I think PC travels in circles designed to exlude the sound of “god god god” 24/7. He probably has souble glazed windows too, for that matter.

If anything, PC seems to post anti-God pretty much every week. Maybe it is us who have a right to challenge him?

  5. oops, I meant “double glazed windows”, not “souble glazed”. I doubt he can afford souble glazing.

  6. Scum really? Great argument, someone doesn’t believe in your ghost and they are scum. Iran and Saudi Arabia take that view and don’t treat people well for that, I guess you may want the same for New Zealand.

Atheist is merely not having a belief in a deity. It is no different from not having a belief that a poodle is orbiting Jupiter or there is a teapot at the centre of the universe.

I’ve lost people recently, they are dead. I wont see them again. They are wormfood now and memories. That is what PC was stating. You can believe all you like that they turn to ghosts and go somewhere else that you can’t accurately describe except one place is great and another is vile – great comfort.

[As I said in comment above – it is the way PC chose to make his comments that makes him “scum”. I defend his right to criticize religion. S1]
