For some reason, I though I had seen all the crap, all the childish brat behavior, all the insults, the most pathetic nonsense that the left has to offer towards those conservative leaders that actually had the bare faced cheek to govern according to the principles they were elected on.
The UK’s New Labour government – frequently derided as “Tories in drag” – is planning a state funeral for Britain’s most hated woman. On the plus side, it will at least give her victims a final chance to throw excrement and rotten fruit at her as she goes past, but really, this is not a person any country should be honouring. She deliberately drove millions into poverty and destroyed British society in pursuit of a demented dream of unfettered capitalism. Her economic “successes” (if you can call them that) were won over the bodies of the poor. And that makes her a criminal, not a hero.
Thatcher’s friend Pinochet (and this is a case where you really can judge someone by the company they keep) had to be cremated and buried in secret to prevent people from digging him up and desecrating the corpse. Mrs Thatcher would be wise to do the same, lest she suffer the same fate as Milosevic…
Thatcher may have been hated by some, but she was also elected year after year, (one presumes by others!) and then her successor John Major was even re-elected after she left. Clearly, the most hated woman tag does carry with it the criteria of loosing a general election.
I knew an Englishman once who credited her with the prosperity that followed her rule. Yes, tough decisions, but they pay off in the long run. The same thing happened here – the 90’s in this country set the scene for the last few years of prosperity in this country.
State funerals are routinely accorded only to monarchs, and Buckingham Palace was forced into a compromise after being wrongfooted over the sudden death of Princess Diana in 1997, the most memorable public funeral in Britain since Queen Victoria’s.
Hm, on the other hand maybe this is the one opportunity that the small minded will have to throw excrement at a state funeral without running the risk of almost certainly being strung up from the nearest lamppost.
I guess the left like it like that.
