On a more serious note, this always seems to be the problem with Democrats in general doesn’t it? Public and private persona are strictly divided. By contrast, someone like George W Bush, however low one’s opinion of him may be, is still, as Zell Miller once said, “the same person on Saturday night as he is on Sunday morning”.
That’s the great thing about George – WYSIWYG (conspiracy theories aside that is). He’ll take the risk of making jokes about himself.
Also interesting that the “clinging to guns and religion” comment that Obama made was to his loyal supporters, clearly he thought he could get away with abusing certain voters when none were around.
