The more I read* of late, the more I come to the conclusion that we’re too late to stop climate change, or it’s a hoax at some level.
NRT thinks it’s real, and he even thinks we’re too late. He even uses a 4 letter word that starts with “f” that I tend not to use myself.
So why exactly are we crippling ourselves with extra costs on our economy to stop something we can’t stop only to have whatever good we’re doing undone by our compeditors?
I still say our money would be best spent sending some young engineers over to Holland to see how they keep the water out there – get in before the rush.
(*there was also something on the radio last night, but I forget what time)
Crazy issue. Most parties (Labour, Green, NZF, National, UF) support an emissions trading scheme, which will cost a horrendous amount but do nothing, even according to Greenpeace. The Maori party support something like this but it is hard to tell what. Act seem to think climate change is a scam, but are proposing a carbon tax anyway for some reason.
There is a good chance that mitigation such as the ETS is futile, as this is true whether humans aren’t causing warming or if we are but can’t stop it. But no party currently in parliament is proposing looking into adapting to it, they are just trying to reduce emissions. But then again, maybe reducing emissions is the way to go.
The only party proposing step back and get the policies designed by the experts (be that mitigation, adaptation or ignoring it), rather than a bunch of warring vote-buying politicians is The Family Party. Blatant advertising I know, but I’ll be announcing more of our environmental policy at our conference in Mangere on Saturday, if you’re in Auckland come along, there’s a free lunch in it for you!

Can I get the free lunch?
Mr Scrubone, I think you’re missing the point. Global warming is not about global warming, it is about control. Socialism, I think.
I am about to embark on ‘The Open Society and its Enemies’ so will tell you all about it later 🙂
