Looking around I see a lot of happy democrats. Apparently, the US now judges men by the content of the character, rather than the colour of their skin.
Silly me, I thought they were judged on their political campaign.
My observation is that much of Obama’s character has in fact been kept hidden.
It is the complete and utter lack of viability that has sunk black candidates in the recent past. The colour of his skin was in fact a massive help, once he established himself as a viable candidate.
In fact, I’m beginning to wonder if there will be another white male president for a long time. By getting out the vote in demographics that do not normally vote, Obama changed the rules of the game. Actually, Rove’s tactics were similar in some respects but that’s another post.
Frankly, I couldn’t care less if there is never again a white, male president. I don’t care about the colour or gender of the president, so long as their values agree with mine.
It’s strange, because I do actually feel very happy in some respects. Fact is, that I support very few of Bush’s policies – most of my support is reacting to the idiots who accuse him of starting wars and such (do you *really* think Gore would not have gone to Iraq?) I would hope those idiots now go away, but I’m not holding my breath.
There are some definite upsides to Obama taking power. He could, if he so choose, go personally to Guantanamo and release the prisoners with much more confidence in the results of such an action than Bush.
But we shall see. Enjoy the party people, the hard work will turn up soon enough.
