“Emma Watson’s film will shock” blares the stuff headline.
So I have a look at the story. Sure enough.
The film is based on the novel by Stephen Chbosky. It includes steamy scenes and some of the characters take drugs, which Ezra knows will shock many.
Get that? It will shock “many”.
I think “several” would be a better term. Having read the headline, reading the above paragraph had a surprise factor of zero. How many people are shocked by sex and drugs in a movie these days? It’s pretty much a given.
Frankly, these days if you want to shock in a movie you need to have the character take up knitting or something like that.
