Update: It’s been pointed out that the wrong default value has been used for most of the blogs that do not have an NZ rating – this error did not affect any of the top 35, but below that some blogs were up to 35 places from where they should rightly have been.

Notes:

1. If you think your data is wrong, feel free to check in the next 12 hours – after midday things tend to change. I had some trouble this time around so I won’t be surprised to find some mistakes.
2. There are no prizes for asking why frog blog is “out of place”. Strictly speaking they should be on the “doesn’t compute” list.

    scrubone, while this will impair my rankings (and others), it seems you use 45000 for AlexaNZ when there is no ranking, but many of the above have 4500. Have you left off a zero?

    And I think you should have key to colour and symbols at the bottom of these posts. Okay, so a cross and $ symbol are obvious, but for completeness.

    Huge disappointent with the new rankings. I am now down to 186. My blog seems to be sinking quicker than the Titanic!!!!
    Where am I going wrong??? Trying to break into the top 100 was harder than I thought. Obviously it is more quantity than quality that determines the value of a blog!!!! 🙂

    Can I ask about the NZ ALexa ranking. If I was given a ranking of 4500 rather than my other score I find myself in the mid 120’s.
    When you are as far down the rankings as I am ever spot makes a difference!!!

    Ok, maybe I should look at a key. There are supposed to be notes come up when you hover over the icons, but clearly that’s not working.

    *$ is economic
    *Female sign is feminist
    *Ping triangle is queer

    Colours are for political position – as most have one. Red is left, blue is right black is anarchist (get rid of the government and destroy business) and the other colour is libertarian (get rid of the government and encourage business).

    I’ll look at something for next month.

    Ozy – you’re now up quite a bit, sorry for the mistake.

    If you want my opinion, my impression of your front page is that it doesn’t look like a blog at first glance, and I think that puts people off. There isn’t much there, but what is there seems cluttered and stark somehow…

    Unfortunately, blogging is a race between the unpopular and the really unpopular for the most part. “Reflections, observations, and humour” area all pretty common. The way my blog got attnetion was by doing a couple of things that no one else had done simply because they were sheer hard work (i.e. reading an entire years worth of certain left wing blogs and making up some charts).

    Right now, these stats plus searches on my back posts are keeping me up there – I’m not offering much else.

    You’ve got to find something that no one else is doing I guess.

    Thanks Scrubone for your advice.

    My blog is more of a pseudnym hobby than anything else and the rankings aren’t important. If I ever made it up the rankings there would be something seriously wrong with the people of New Zealand!!!

    I try and make my posts funny and entertaining, especially to close family. Sadly that doesn’t create the kind of blog for debate and numbers.
    You mentioned I need to find something no one else is doing!!! Can’t say I’ve read a blog like mine and my letter department is certainly one of a kind.

    Keep up the good work. Your rankings must take hours.

    And like I predicted, all the worst for me!

    I think you should have an adjusted HD score that divides the score by the number of bloggers per blog! Having several authors increases postings and potentially a larger readership from friends.
